Biography

Danie Marais was born in 1971 in Kimberley, South Africa. He is the author of the Afrikaans poetry collection In Die Buitenste Ruimte (In the Outermost Space). He attended the university of Stellenbosch where he graduated with a Bachelor degree. He went on to study teaching at the Carl von Ossietzky Universität in Oldenburg, Germany, where he majored in German, mathematics, and philosophy. His debut collection of poems received the Eugène Marais, Ingrid Jonker, and UJ Debut Prizes. In 2007 he was invited to the Poetry International Festival in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He also participated in Poetry Africa in Durban in 2007. Marais is currently a freelance journalist in Cape Town.
