Biography
Ken Saro-Wiwa was a Nigerian writer, activist, and television producer. A member of the Ogoni people, Saro-Wiwa served as the president of the organization Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) and attempted to prevent the environmental destruction of land in his home region. In 1995, he was accused of plotting the murder of Ogoni chiefs by the military dictatorship of Nigeria at the time. He was executed in 1995. Saro-Wiwa was awarded the Right Livelihood Award for his work in environmental activism.
