Biography
John Maxwell Coetzee was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1940. Though an opponent of apartheid, Coetzee returned to South Africa after receiving his PhD at the University of Texas in 1969. Coetzee wrote frequently on the effects of colonization; he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2003.
