Biography
-
Arthur Notje was a South African poet who was emigrated in 1967 to Canada following his graduation from the University of the Western Cape and Jesus College in the UK. While in school, he was taught by writer Dennis Brutus, who served as his mentor. His poetry was largely published posthumously. His poems deal extensively with his own personal alienation, being classified as coloured in apartheid South Africa, and his experiences of exile.
